A brazen armed robbery went down at Z-Mart on Fred George Road in Tallahassee, Florida, on January 31, 2026. Laquinton Montral Harris, a 36-year-old convicted felon, allegedly walked into the store dressed in all black, demanded cash from an employee, and fired a shot into the floor when the worker said he had no immediate access to money. The employee then handed over the cash register drawer, and Harris made his escape. But his freedom was short-lived, as a thorough investigation by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office led them straight to Harris’ doorstep.
A federal search warrant was executed at Harris’ residence, where cops found a firearm and clothing that matched the gear seen on the store’s surveillance footage. Harris, who has a prior felony conviction, has now been indicted on one count of Hobbs Act robbery, carrying, brandishing, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Harris appeared in federal court for his arraignment and is set to face a jury trial on June 23, 2026. If convicted, he’s looking at up to 20 years in the slammer for the robbery count, at least 10 years for the firearm charge, and up to 15 years for possessing a gun as a convicted felon. The US Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, John P. Heekin, announced the charges against Harris.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to crack down on violent crime in the region. As the investigation continues, one thing is clear: Laquinton Harris is facing some serious time behind bars if convicted.
