In a shocking case of tax evasion, Tamika Woods, 31, of Marion Junction, Alabama, was sentenced to five years’ probation for her role in aiding and abetting the filing of fraudulent tax returns, a crime she committed while working for a tax service in the Selma area.
According to court documents, Woods and her accomplices filed tax returns that reflected refunds that were not owed to the individuals. This disturbing trend of tax fraud has been a growing concern for the IRS and law enforcement agencies.
Woods pleaded guilty to the charge in February 2016, and her sentencing was meted out by United States District Court Judge Kristi K. Dubose. The judge ordered Woods to pay restitution to the Internal Revenue Service in the amount of $49,857.
