MINNEAPOLIS – Tammy Wadsworth, the 63-year-old founder of Pain, Injury and Brain Centers of America (PIBCOA), has entered a guilty plea for possessing altered medical products in a $2 million scam. The conwoman, who promised a “great source of revenue” with her fake microcurrent therapy, is now facing federal justice.
Wadsworth’s Pain, Injury and Brain Centers of America, a Minnesota-based limited liability company with clinics across the U.S., claimed to offer A.I. Myoneurvascular Therapy using artificial intelligence and low voltage electricity. But this was a lie; the treatment involved electrodes delivering electrical currents to patients’ skin, causing injuries instead of healing.
Wadsworth conned over a dozen franchise owners into opening clinics, selling them expensive equipment she refaced and claimed as her own. The reality was that these devices had their serial numbers and manufacturer information removed or covered up. The conwoman promised high success rates for treating diseases like Lupus, Parkinson’s, and Autism, but the treatment often caused burns, scars, and severe nausea.
Her scheme involved charging franchise owners between $60,000 and $250,000 to open PIBCOA franchises, which all eventually had to shut down due to Wadsworth’s false representations. The total loss from her actions was over $2 million, primarily used for personal gain like purchasing a house in Nevada and a Mercedes Benz.
“Wadsworth is a modern-day snake oil salesman,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, who added that such fraud exploits families searching for answers and is among the most shameless crimes seen. “It’s theft dressed up as innovation.” Wadsworth now joins other Minnesota fraudsters facing federal justice.
Wadsworth’s sentencing will take place at a later date. U.S. consumers rely on the FDA to ensure medical devices are safe and effective, but Wadsworth’s case highlights the risks when unscrupulous operators exploit that trust.”
