Tax Preparer Accused of Fabricating Earned Income Tax Credits
Augusta, GA – In a shocking move, the United States government has filed a lawsuit against Endia Delores Nipper, owner of TDNS Tax Services, seeking to permanently enjoin her from preparing federal tax returns.
According to the government’s complaint, Nipper fabricated or inflated earned income tax credit claims on tax returns that she prepared for her clients. It is alleged that nearly 90 percent of the returns audited by the Internal Revenue Service resulted in the disallowance or reduction of the earned income tax credit.
The average adjustment on the audited returns was in excess of $4,000. Since 2007, Nipper has prepared close to 4,000 income tax returns each year, with approximately 50 percent of those returns claiming the earned income tax credit.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Georgia, is part of the government’s nationwide crackdown on tax scams, including the preparation of fraudulent federal tax returns. Since 2001, the government has obtained hundreds of injunctions to stop the promotion of tax fraud schemes and the preparation of fraudulent returns.
Nipper’s actions, if proven, would be a major blow to the integrity of the tax system. The government is seeking to hold her accountable for her alleged crimes and prevent her from continuing to harm innocent taxpayers.
The government’s Tax Division is responsible for enforcing tax laws and protecting the integrity of the tax system. For more information about the Tax Division, visit www.usdoj.gov/tax.
The case highlights the importance of choosing a trustworthy tax preparer and being cautious of individuals or companies that promise unrealistic tax refunds or refunds that seem too good to be true.
