A former elementary school teacher in Austin, Texas, has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for possessing a massive collection of child sexual abuse material. Carl David Innmon, 51, was a fifth-grade teacher in the Austin Independent School District at the time of his arrest in April 2025. He had also worked as a substitute teacher at approximately 20 other schools within the district. Innmon’s arrest was the result of a digital forensic analysis of his seized devices, which revealed over 16,000 files of child sexual abuse material on his laptop and an additional 349,728 files on an external hard drive.
The investigation was conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, and the case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Grant Sparks. The sentence was handed down as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse launched by the Department of Justice in 2006.
Innmon’s crime is a stark reminder of the dangers that lurk in positions of trust and authority. As a teacher, he was tasked with caring for and educating the most vulnerable members of our society, but instead, he used his position to feed his own deviant desires.
