Braddock Felon Charged with Possession of Firearm and Ammunition
Terrance Chatman, a 33-year-old resident of Braddock, Pennsylvania, has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on a charge of violating a federal firearms law, announced Acting United States Attorney Troy Rivetti today.
The one-count Indictment names Chatman as the sole defendant, accusing him of possessing a firearm and ammunition on or about December 11, 2024. This is a serious offense, considering Chatman has been convicted of four prior felonies, including murder, robbery, criminal conspiracy, and firearms charges.
According to the Indictment, federal law prohibits possession of a firearm or ammunition by a convicted felon. This law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 15 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, or both. The actual sentence imposed would be based upon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history of the defendant.
Assistant United States Attorney V. Joseph Sonson is prosecuting this case on behalf of the government. The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation leading to the Indictment.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in our communities. The program brings together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
An indictment is an accusation, and Chatman is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
