Heroin Trafficking Ring Busted in Pennsylvania

A brazen heroin trafficking operation was dismantled in Pennsylvania after a New York man was indicted for possessing 2,500 bags of heroin and body armor during a traffic stop.

Terrence T. Byrd, 37, of New York, NY, was charged with two counts of heroin trafficking and body armor possession in a federal indictment handed down by a grand jury in Harrisburg.

According to prosecutors, Byrd was stopped by the Pennsylvania State Police for a traffic violation on Interstate 81 in Lower Paxton Township on September 17, 2014. During a search of the vehicle, troopers recovered 2,500 bags of heroin and body armor.

Byrd allegedly fled on foot when the contraband was discovered but was apprehended after a brief chase.

Byrd faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the heroin trafficking charge and up to life imprisonment for the body armor possession charge.

The investigation was led by the Pennsylvania State Police, the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Harrisburg Resident Office.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney William A. Behe.

Byrd is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
