Bank Robbery Rocks Albuquerque Community

A 41-year-old Albuquerque man has been charged with bank robbery after allegedly committing two separate robberies in the city.

According to a federal complaint, Thomas Kelly Fadgen entered a Walmart on Wyoming Boulevard in Albuquerque on August 31, approached the money services counter, and placed a demand note on the counter. The clerk at the counter complied with Fadgen’s demands, and he fled the scene.

On October 5, Fadgen allegedly entered the First Convenience Bank inside the Walmart on Carlisle Boulevard in Albuquerque and presented a demand note to a teller. He also displayed a handgun in his waistband, and the teller complied with his demands. Fadgen allegedly fled the scene once again.

Fadgen, 41, of Albuquerque, made an initial appearance in federal court on October 28, facing charges of bank robbery and interfering with commerce by threats or violence. He will remain in custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for November 1.

The FBI Violent Crimes and Gangs Task Force investigated the case with assistance from the Albuquerque Police Department and the New Mexico Corrections Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Presiliano Torrez is prosecuting the case.

Bank robbery is a serious crime that can result in severe penalties, including up to 20 years in prison. If convicted, Fadgen faces this sentence. The case is a reminder of the importance of community policing and the need for citizens to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
