Threats Fly in South Dakota: 64-Year-Old Armour Man Charged with Threatening Communications
A 64-year-old man from Armour, South Dakota, has been charged with threatening communications after making a threatening phone call to a member of Congress.
Larry Lee Grueschow, age 64, was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 3, 2021, for transmitting a threatening phone call in interstate commerce from South Dakota to Washington, D.C. on June 11, 2020.
The phone call allegedly contained a threat to injure the member of Congress and others. If convicted, Grueschow faces a maximum penalty of up to five years in custody and/or a $250,000 fine, three years of supervised release, and $100 to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Restitution may also be ordered.
Grueschow appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on August 30, 2021, and pled not guilty to the Indictment. He was released pending trial, with a trial date set for November 2, 2021.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy Jehangiri prosecuting the case. The charge is merely an accusation, and Grueschow is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
