A disturbing case of child pornography distribution has come to an end in the state of Nebraska, with Timothy E. Caruso, 45, being sentenced to 180 months in prison for his crimes.
Caruso, a resident of Nebraska, was found guilty by a jury on July 15, 2021, of charges of distributing child pornography and accessing with intent to view child pornography.
The charges against Caruso stemmed from an investigation by the Omaha FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force, which discovered that he had uploaded an image of child pornography to a private section of Pinterest in December 2018.
Pinterest reported the upload to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, who then traced the image back to a Google account used by Caruso and sent from an IP address where he was staying at the time.
Further investigation revealed that Caruso’s search terms indicated an interest in young girls, and his messages on Pinterest included that he had lost his child pornography collection and was seeking to trade child pornography and acquire new images.
In addition to his prison sentence, Caruso will also serve 14 months for a violation of supervised release, which will be served consecutive to his sentence for the child pornography offense.
Caruso will be on supervised release for life upon his release from prison, with no parole available in the federal system due to the nature of his crimes.
This case serves as a reminder of the importance of online safety and the need for individuals to report suspicious activity to the authorities.
The Omaha FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force is to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing Caruso to justice.
In light of this case, the public is urged to remain vigilant and report any instances of child exploitation to the authorities immediately.
