Two Pomona Residents Charged with Methamphetamine Conspiracy
Travis J. Sanders, 29, and April M. Elliot, 33, both of Pomona, Illinois, have been charged with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, announced Stephen R. Wigginton, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois.
The alleged offense occurred between 2009 and December 2013, in Union and Jackson Counties. Elliot made her initial appearance in federal court on April 14, 2014, and was released on bond pending a jury trial on June 16, 2014. Sanders is scheduled to make his initial appearance in federal court on April 24, 2014.
The methamphetamine offense carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, to be followed by 3 years’ supervised release, and a fine of $1,000,000.
Under the law, a defendant is presumed to be innocent of a charge until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Union County Sheriff’s Office, Murphysboro Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. The Illinois State Police Methamphetamine Response Team and Union County State’s Attorney’s Office assisted in the investigation.
The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
