Hastings Woman Sentenced for Methamphetamine Possession
A 36-year-old Hastings woman has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison for possessing methamphetamine with the intention of distributing it. Vallen Bateman was sentenced on June 24, 2022, in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska.
According to Acting United States Attorney Steven Russell, Bateman was found to be in possession of 80 grams of methamphetamine, a scale, and 13 grams of marijuana when she was arrested on September 28, 2020. The arrest was made at a residence in Grand Island, following a federal warrant for John Wizinsky, who was also present at the time.
Bateman admitted to having marijuana in her backpack, but a search revealed the methamphetamine and other items. Wizinsky was sentenced on July 23, 2021, to 262 months’ imprisonment for distributing methamphetamine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Grand Island Police Department, and the Central Nebraska Drug and Safe Streets Task Force.
Bateman will serve 66 months in prison, followed by a five-year term of supervised release upon her release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Acting United States Attorney Steven Russell announced the sentencing, stating that the investigation and prosecution of methamphetamine distribution cases is a priority for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The case highlights the ongoing efforts to combat methamphetamine trafficking in Nebraska. Law enforcement agencies continue to work together to identify and prosecute those involved in the distribution of this dangerous substance.
In addition to the prison sentence, Bateman’s case serves as a reminder of the consequences of being involved in methamphetamine distribution. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work with law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice.
