⏱ 3 min read

Crime victims in Central Illinois are getting a new ally in their fight for justice – a Facility Dog named Maisy. Maisy is the nation’s first U.S. Attorney’s Office Facility Dog, and she’s been introduced to provide support and comfort to victims navigating the justice system. The US Attorney’s Office for the Central District of Illinois made the announcement as part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week, April 19-25, 2026.

Nearly 40 years ago, the first National Crime Victims’ Rights Week was established to raise awareness of victims’ rights and honor those affected by crime. The theme this year is ‘Listen. Act. Advocate,’ emphasizing the importance of providing the highest level of service to victims. The US Attorney’s Office for Central Illinois serves 46 counties, and they’re committed to identifying victims’ needs and advocating for the best way to meet them.

Maisy is no ordinary dog – she’s been trained to work directly with victims coping with trauma. Her presence in the courtroom and at victim support sessions aims to provide a sense of calm and comfort to those who need it most. The introduction of Maisy is just one way the US Attorney’s Office is reaffirming its commitment to supporting victims of crime in Central Illinois.

The US Attorney’s Office for Central Illinois is grateful for the partnership with law enforcement agencies, social service organizations, and community groups that support victims throughout the region. By working together, they aim to empower survivors and provide them with the dignity and respect they deserve.
