In a significant blow to international drug trafficking, a 27-year-old Indian national has been sentenced to four months and ten days in prison for conspiring to import misbranded prescription drugs into the United States.
Ummer Nishad, a resident of Mumbai, India, was sentence to 4 months and 10 days in prison in the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Harrisonburg, as part of a guilty plea to conspiring to import illegal prescription drugs.
Nishad was also ordered to pay $7,500 in restitution and agreed to be removed to India following the completion of his prison term. This sentence serves as a stern warning to those involved in the trafficking of misbranded prescription drugs.
