A 26-year-old Kalamazoo man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually exploiting a 13-year-old child in a case investigated by federal authorities.
Devonte Andrew Edwards, 26, was busted after Child Protective Services learned the 13-year-old had run away with him in the spring of 2025.
Police seized Edwards’s electronic devices and found pictures and videos of him raping the teenager, along with messages bragging about the assaults to friends.
At sentencing, Chief U.S. District Judge Hala Y. Jarbou noted Edwards’s own confession that he wanted to groom and assault kids ‘for the rest of my life.’
‘I doubt he will enjoy being in federal prison for the next 30 years, but that is exactly where he belongs,’ said U.S. Attorney Timothy VerHey. ‘Sexual predators take note: Keep your hands off our kids or you will be found, prosecuted and sent to prison for a very long time.’
