Wichita Man Sentenced for Methamphetamine Conspiracy

A Wichita man has been sentenced to 130 months in federal prison for his role in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation.

Steven Ward McMullen, Jr., 45, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on September 23, 2019. McMullen was also ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund, and serve five years of supervised release following his prison term.

The conviction stems from a conspiracy that began on or about January 25, 2018, and continued until August 13, 2018. During this time, McMullen knowingly and intentionally combined, conspired, confederated, and agreed with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.

The investigation into McMullen’s activities was a collaborative effort involving the Mobridge Police Department, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office, the Mandan, North Dakota Police Department, and the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron J. Cook prosecuted the case, which resulted in McMullen’s guilty plea on June 4, 2019. McMullen was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service following his sentencing.
