Wichita Man Pleads Guilty to Bank Robbery Charge

A brazen bank robbery in Wichita ended in a chaotic car crash, but not before the suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. Harold Carl Deloach Jr., 41, of Wichita, pleaded guilty on Monday to robbing the Credit Union of America at 212 S. Ridge Road in Wichita on January 15, 2015.

According to the FBI, Deloach entered the credit union at approximately 5 p.m. and handed a note to the teller, demanding they ‘put the money in the bag.’ The teller, however, refused to comply, and the suspect fled the scene.

The chase was on, but it wasn’t the police who were hot on Deloach’s tail—instead, it was his own reckless driving. The suspect rolled his car in a residential neighborhood near 13th North and Tyler, about three miles from the bank. He was promptly arrested by the Wichita Police Department and the FBI.

Assistant U.S. Attorney commended the Wichita Police Department, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office for their tireless efforts in bringing Deloach to justice. ‘We are committed to keeping our communities safe from violent crimes like bank robbery,’ said U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom.

Deloach faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison and a fine up to $250,000. Sentencing is set for December 14.

The Credit Union of America was left shaken by the incident, but grateful for the swift response of law enforcement. ‘We are thankful that no one was injured during the robbery, and we appreciate the hard work of the Wichita Police Department and the FBI in apprehending the suspect,’ said a spokesperson for the credit union.
