William James Smith, Jr., Felon in Possession of Firearm & Ammunition, Oklahoma 2015

Oklahoma man William James Smith, Jr., a/k/a Jimmy, has pleaded guilty to a serious crime that puts public safety at risk.

According to court documents, Smith, 35, of Okay, Oklahoma, was found to be in possession of a firearm and ammunition, despite having a prior conviction that bars him from owning such items.

The charges against Smith stem from an investigation by the United States Marshal Service, District 27 Drug Task Force and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The defendant was indicted in August 2015, and the indictment alleged that on or about February 26, 2015, Smith knowingly possessed a firearm and ammunition in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.

The Honorable Kimberly E. West, Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, accepted the guilty plea and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Smith will remain in the custody of the United States Marshal Service pending sentencing.

The charge of Felon in Possession of Firearm & Ammunition carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
