Jackson Co. Woman Sentenced for Trafficking Crystal Methamphetamine
In a crushing blow to the illicit narcotics trade, a federal judge has sentenced a 36-year-old woman to 70 months in prison for trafficking crystal methamphetamine in Western North Carolina.
Jamie Lynn Swartz, formerly of Sylva, was found guilty of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine after a thorough investigation by the DEA, SBI and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court records, Swartz engaged in a drug conspiracy from August 2013 to March 2015, utilizing a source of supply in Atlanta, Georgia, for larger quantities of crystal methamphetamine. She made frequent trips to Atlanta, purchasing the drugs from her co-defendant, Lisa Keith Jenkins.
Swartz pleaded guilty in October 2015 and has been in federal custody since August 2015. She will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility. All federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole.
Lisa Jenkins, Swartz’s co-defendant, was sentenced to 78 months in prison and five years of supervised release in February 2016 for her role in the conspiracy.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Kent of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Asheville is in charge of the prosecution, which was made possible by the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies dedicated to eradicating the scourge of illicit narcotics from our communities.
