New Orleans, LA – Erin Alonzo, 28, is facing a mountain of federal charges after a December bust revealed a serious operation. According to court papers unsealed today, Alonzo was caught with enough fentanyl, coke, and meth to land him decades in the pen – upwards of 40 years, by the feds’ count.
But the drugs weren’t the whole story. Cops allegedly found Alonzo in possession of a trio of firearms: a Glock .40, an AR-style pistol, and a Makarov 9mm. The kicker? One of those Glocks was rigged with a conversion device, turning it into an illegal machinegun. As if that wasn’t enough, Alonzo already had a felony conviction for obstructing a homicide investigation, meaning he wasn’t supposed to have any guns in the first place.
The feds are hitting Alonzo with charges for drug trafficking, possession of a firearm during a drug crime, illegal machinegun possession, and being a prohibited person in possession of firearms and ammo. A conviction on the drug charges alone could bring 5 to 40 years. Adding the gun charges? That could easily escalate to a life sentence. He’s also looking at hefty fines potentially reaching millions and years of supervised release. This case is being prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
