United States Attorney Jay Clayton, along with several high-ranking officials, announced a superseding indictment against ten members of the notorious gang Tren de Aragua. The defendants are charged with participating in a racketeering conspiracy and committing multiple violent crimes in aid of racketeering. The chilling allegations include the May 24, 2024, double murder of Claretha LaQuesha Daniels and Justin Lawless in the Bronx, New York. Three individuals were involved, with one victim sustaining injuries.
Samuel Gonzalez Castro, known as ‘Klei,’ faces additional charges for participating in a shooting incident on August 3, 2024, that left a bystander injured. Six of the accused had previous charges related to racketeering, firearms, drug, and sex trafficking offenses. Currently, eight are in custody, while Keiver Silva-Jimenez remains at large.
Farias, known as ‘Bili,’ was previously deported by immigration authorities. The case is now assigned to U.S. District Judge Denise L. Cote. Speaking on the charges, U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to dismantle organizations that perpetuate violence and harm innocent lives.
U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the DOJ’s dedication to bringing justice to victims of Tren de Aragua’s crimes. Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, highlighted the gang’s ruthless nature and vowed to continue deporting foreign terrorists under President Trump’s leadership.
HSI Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel described the organization as a symbol of unchecked brutality and vowed an unyielding offensive against TdA and its affiliates. The coordinated efforts by federal and local law enforcement aim to restore peace and security to New York City’s streets.
