Missouri Man Sentenced to 180 Months Imprisonment for Production of Child Pornography

HARRISBURG – In a shocking case of child exploitation, James Tyler Murphy, a 25-year-old man from Amoret, Missouri, was sentenced to 180 months’ imprisonment, followed by 20 years of supervised release, for producing child pornography.

According to U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus, Murphy entered a guilty plea to one count of production of child pornography in July 2021. The disturbing crime occurred between April 3 and April 28, 2018, when Murphy produced pornographic videos of a 12-year-old child from York County.

U.S. District Court Judge Christopher C. Conner handed down the sentence on March 15, 2022. This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of child exploitation and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Harrisburg Resident Office, with Assistant United States Attorney Christian Haugsby prosecuting the case.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
