ALBUQUERQUE – A chilling admission came from Devin Jasperse, 31, this morning as he pled guilty in federal court to the armed heist of the First Financial Credit Union on Coors Boulevard. The crime took place in February 2014.
Jasperse was apprehended March 27, 2014, following a complaint that pinned him to the Feb. 19, 2014, bank takeover and the brazen display of a semi-automatic pistol during the violent act.
Today’s courtroom revelation revealed Jasperse’s admission of holding up the credit union at gunpoint. He recounted jumping over the teller counter, demanding cash with threats of violence, and escaping the scene with cash in hand. In his plea, he confessed to disposing of the firearm used in the crime and hiding another in an apartment, which law enforcement later recovered.
At sentencing, Jasperse faces a staggering 25-year sentence for the bank robbery and a mandatory seven more years for the firearms charge, which must follow the armed robbery term. Currently behind bars, his fate awaits the scheduling of his sentencing hearing.
This case was a joint effort by the Albuquerque office of the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lynn Wei-Yu Wang is leading the prosecution.
