A Springfield, Mo., man was sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for soliciting pornographic images and videos from an 11-year-old victim over Facebook Messenger.
Alejandrino Velazquez-Hernandez, 34, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge M. Douglas Harpool on August 16, 2022 to 17 years and six months in federal prison without parole.
The crime occurred from October 1, 2020 through April 1, 2021 in Greene County, Mo., where Velazquez-Hernandez communicated with the child victim on the Facebook Messenger application.
Velazquez-Hernandez was ordered removed from the United States on November 19, 2013 after failing to appear for his immigration hearing.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephanie L. Wan and investigated by the Greene County, Mo., Sheriff’s Department, Homeland Security Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Springfield, Mo., Police Department.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Alejandrino Velazquez-Hernandez is a Mexican national who was illegally in the United States. He pleaded guilty to the sexual exploitation of a child on February 8, 2022 and admitted to using an 11-year-old child to produce child pornography.
