Victor Hugo Rocha-Romero, a 36-year-old Mexican national, was sentenced to over a year in federal prison for assaulting federal agents in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The incident occurred on June 30, 2025, when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents attempted to execute a final Order of Removal to deport Rocha-Romero. As agents tried to place him in restraints at a gas station, Rocha-Romero attempted to flee and made physical contact with an agent, causing abrasions and damage to the agent’s clothing.
Rocha-Romero had previously been issued a final Order of Removal from the United States. Despite initially cooperating with agents, he resisted and impeded the agents during the deportation attempt. He later admitted to resisting, impeding, and interfering with the agents.
Rocha-Romero pleaded guilty in July 2026 to Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers or Employees. United States District Judge James D. Cain, Jr. sentenced him to over a year in federal prison. The case was prosecuted as part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and transnational crime.
