Xavier Johnson, Conspiracy to Distribute Heroin, Marijuana, Methamphetamine, Louisiana 2019

GRIMY TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Xavier Johnson, 38, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has been convicted by a federal jury for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute heroin, marijuana, and methamphetamine. United States Attorney Ronald C. Gathe, Jr., announced the verdict following a three-day trial that began on January 30, 2023.

Johnson was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2019, charged with orchestrating drug deals from California to Angola State Penitentiary and Baton Rouge’s streets. Evidence presented at trial showed Johnson supervised couriers, personally distributed drugs, and attempted to smuggle contraband into Angola.

The jury found Johnson guilty of conspiracy to knowingly and intentionally distribute the drugs, in addition to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. If sentenced to the maximum term, Johnson faces 20 years in federal prison, substantial fines, and a mandatory 3-year supervised release period.

This case was a collaborative effort by multiple law enforcement agencies including the FBI, USPS, ATF, Louisiana Department of Corrections, 20th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and St. Francisville Police Department. Assistant United States Attorneys Paul L. Pugliese and April Leon Johnson handled the prosecution.

Johnson’s convictions are a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in Louisiana and across the nation.
