ALEXANDRIA, La. – In a shocking case of repeated disregard for U.S. law, Bertolodo Labra-Martinez, a 33-year-old citizen of Mexico, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for reentering the country after having been previously removed twice.
According to court records, Labra-Martinez was found in the United States on November 3, 2016, while incarcerated at the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center. This incident marked the third time Labra-Martinez had entered the country illegally.
The defendant’s previous removals from the U.S. were in January 2008 and March 2015. These incidents demonstrate a clear pattern of disregard for U.S. law and a blatant disregard for the safety and sovereignty of our nation.
Labra-Martinez was sentenced by United States District Judge Dee D. Drell on Thursday to one count of illegal reentry of a removed alien.
The investigation was conducted by United States Customs and Border Protection, who have been working tirelessly to prevent and prosecute cases of illegal reentry.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. McCoy is prosecuting the case, ensuring that justice is served and that those who repeatedly disregard U.S. law are held accountable.
