Brian A. Mudd, Methamphetamine Distribution, Illinois 2017

A Randolph County man is facing serious charges after a lengthy investigation into his alleged involvement in the distribution of methamphetamine. Brian A. Mudd, 59, of Ruma, Illinois, has been charged with conspiracy to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

According to the indictment, the offense occurred between June 2016 and December 8, 2017, in Randolph County. Mudd was taken into custody and made his initial appearance in federal court on April 10, 2017. He was ordered held without bond pending a detention hearing on April 13, 2017.

An indictment is a formal charge against a defendant, and Mudd is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt to the satisfaction of a jury. The methamphetamine offense carries a maximum penalty of 5-40 years of imprisonment, to be followed by four years of supervised release, and a $5,000,000 fine.

The ongoing investigation into Mudd’s alleged activities is being conducted by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office, Chester Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and Drug Enforcement Administration. The Randolph County States Attorney’s Office also assisted in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorneys Amanda A. Robertson and Adam E. Hanna have been assigned to prosecute the case.
