Amire Newsome, Racketeering Conspiracy, Connecticut 2023

BRIDGEPORT, CT – In a gritty blow to the Original North End (O.N.E.) gang’s criminal enterprise, Amire Newsome, also known as ‘Mire,’ 22, was sentenced yesterday by U.S. District Judge Kari A. Dooley in Bridgeport to 180 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release.

Newsome, a resident of Stamford, faced the court’s wrath for his involvement in the violent activities of the O.N.E., a gang based in the Trumbull Gardens area of Bridgeport. The DOJ has been cracking down on multiple Bridgeport-based gangs, with Newsome’s sentence being part of this relentless pursuit.

The investigation revealed that Newsome was deeply involved in the gang’s operations, including selling drugs, robbing drug dealers and customers, and even stealing cars to commit crimes. His name popped up in numerous social media posts and text messages linking him to firearms and drug sales, as well as participation in stolen vehicle thefts and conspiracy to murder.

One chilling incident stands out: On March 25, 2020, Newsome and fellow O.N.E. member Tyiese Warren carjacked a Toyota Corolla and robbed the Citgo station in Stratford, Connecticut. Another harrowing act occurred on March 7, 2021, when Newsome and Jahaz Langston conspired to murder rival gang members, leading to the severe injury of one mother.

Newsome’s arrest came on August 10, 2021, following a relentless investigation by various law enforcement agencies. He pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy on August 16, 2023. His sentencing is a victory for justice in Bridgeport, with approximately 47 gang members and associates now convicted of federal offenses from this probe.

This investigation was a collaborative effort between the FBI, ATF, DEA, U.S. Marshals Service, Connecticut State Police, Bridgeport Police Department, and other local law enforcement agencies. It has solved eight murders and approximately 20 attempted murders, demonstrating the power of teamwork in combating organized crime.
