Oklahoma Man Sentenced to 17 Years in Prison for Traveling to Meet a Minor
Oklahoma City, OK – In a disturbing case of a predator traveling to meet a minor, Bryan Devin Cruz, 25, of Texas, has been sentenced to serve 210 months in federal prison for interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor, announced U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester.
According to public records, on April 5, 2024, Cruz traveled from Dallas, Texas, to Moore, Oklahoma, to meet a 13-year-old girl he had met online. Cruz, who claimed to be 17 years old, had expressed interest in meeting the minor and engaging in illicit activity.
The minor’s parents consented to the search of the teenager’s laptop, which revealed that Cruz had been communicating with the minor online. Investigators from Homeland Security Investigations and the Moore Police Department worked together to apprehend Cruz after a thermal imaging drone was deployed to survey the area and locate the suspect.
Cruz was arrested and subsequently charged with coercion and enticement of a minor and interstate travel with intent to engage in a sexual act with a minor. On September 12, 2024, Cruz pleaded guilty to the latter charge, admitting to traveling to Oklahoma for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct with a minor.
On May 1, 2025, U.S. District Judge Patrick R. Wyrick sentenced Cruz to serve 210 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. In announcing his sentence, Judge Wyrick noted the need to protect the public from further crime and the nature and circumstances of the offense.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The PSC marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
