CLARKSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – Cameron Dixon, 27, of Buckhannon, West Virginia, faced justice today as he was sentenced to 20 months in federal prison for his role in a firearms offense. The U.S. Attorney Bill Powell announced the sentence on Thursday.
Dixon, who admitted to possessing a stolen .45 caliber pistol in September 2017 within Harrison County, pleaded guilty to one count of ‘Possession of a Stolen Firearm’ back in February 2019. His admission was a stark reminder of the dangers posed by illegal firearms circulation in the community.
This case was part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. PSN, an evidence-based program known for its effectiveness, brings together a wide range of stakeholders to tackle the most pressing issues and devise comprehensive solutions. The strategy focuses on apprehending the most violent offenders while collaborating with local programs for long-term crime reduction.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew R. Cogar led the prosecution on behalf of the government, backed by the thorough investigation conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Thomas S. Kleeh, ensuring that justice was served in this case.
Joining forces to make these efforts possible were various stakeholders dedicated to curbing violent crime and enhancing public safety.
