Buffalo Man Jailed 60 Months for Crack Cocaine Trafficking
A 35-year-old Buffalo man, Travis Birdsong, has been sentenced to 60 months in prison for his role in a crack cocaine trafficking operation. U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced the sentencing, which brings an end to an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney George C. Burgasser, who handled the case, Birdsong was convicted of possession with intent to distribute 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. On June 5, 2013, Special Agents with the DEA searched a vehicle in which Birdsong was a passenger and seized a quantity of crack cocaine.
Law enforcement officers also searched Birdsong’s residence on June 5 and seized a quantity of cocaine, as well as scales and packaging materials. Additionally, a confidential informant purchased cocaine from Birdsong on two separate occasions.
Birdsong’s sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the DEA, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James J. Hunt, New York Field Division.
The conviction stems from a series of events that began in June 2013. Birdsong’s arrest and subsequent conviction serve as a reminder of the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Western New York.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo has made combating narcotics trafficking a priority in recent years. This latest sentencing is a testament to the office’s commitment to keeping the community safe.
