Buffalo Woman Sentenced for Marijuana Conspiracy
A former Buffalo woman has been sentenced to time served, six months home detention and two years supervised release for her role in a marijuana conspiracy, according to federal authorities.
Jacquelyn Witman, 32, was convicted of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, marijuana, following an investigation by multiple agencies. Witman conspired with others to distribute marijuana between 2010 and February 2011, and was attempting to board a flight to Arizona when she was caught by airport security.
During the security screening, screeners found $21,150 in U.S. currency, which Witman admitted was the proceeds of marijuana sales. Law enforcement officers seized approximately $1,000,000 in U.S. currency during the investigation.
Other defendants charged in the case include Shane Grafman of Phoenix, Arizona, and Elijah Chaffino of Tempe, Arizona, who have been convicted and are awaiting sentencing. Charges are still pending against defendants Jordan Ali, formerly of Alden, N.Y, Jason Nati and Gabriel Rodriguez, both of Buffalo, N.Y.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Internal Revenue Service, the United States Postal Service Inspection Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Buffalo Police Department, the Erie County Sheriff’s Department, the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority, the Tempe, Arizona Police Department, the Apache County, Arizona Sheriff’s Department, and the Oklahoma State Police.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Timothy C. Lynch handled the case, stating that the defendant’s actions were a significant threat to public safety. ‘The defendant conspired with others to distribute marijuana, and the investigation revealed a significant amount of money was involved,’ Lynch said.
The sentencing of Witman serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and other forms of organized crime. As the investigation continues, authorities remain committed to bringing those responsible to justice.
