The streets of Burley, Idaho, just got a little darker. Lucio Juarez, a resident of the small town, has been indicted for his alleged involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking ring.
According to court documents, Juarez conspired with others to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine between December 2016 and April 2017. The indictment alleges that the defendant distributed methamphetamine on four separate occasions during this timeframe.
Law enforcement officials executed search warrants in Burley and Heyburn on Wednesday, April 26th, as part of the investigation. The case is being investigated by a team of agencies, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Idaho State Police, the Cassia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Minidoka County Sheriff’s Office.
The charges against Juarez carry severe penalties, including a term of imprisonment of no less than five and up to forty years, a maximum fine of $5,000,000, and at least four years of supervised release.
The case is set to go to trial on July 3, 2017, before U.S. District Chief Judge B. Lynn Winmill at the federal courthouse in Pocatello.
An indictment is a means of charging a person with criminal activity, but it is not evidence. Juarez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The people of Burley are demanding answers, and the Grimy Times will be there every step of the way to bring you the latest updates in this developing story.
