BOISE – In a grim reminder of the fight against drug trafficking, Tyler J. Pierce, 31, from Caldwell, Idaho, was sentenced to 125 months in federal prison for distributing cocaine and methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit.
Court records reveal that in June 2022, Canyon County Narcotics Unit officers got wind of Pierce’s illegal activities. Between June and August 2023, Pierce sold a total of 3.24 grams of cocaine and 361.99 grams of meth to an undercover officer on three separate occasions.
After his arrest on an Idaho Department of Correction Agent’s Warrant, Pierce attempted to delete digital evidence related to his case during phone calls with his spouse. On one such call, he threatened the life of the undercover police officer involved in his capture. Pierce faced additional charges for obstructing or impeding justice.
Pierce’s criminal history is lengthy, marked by felony convictions including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, grand theft, and eluding law enforcement.
Senior U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill ordered Pierce to serve four years of supervised release following his prison sentence. He pleaded guilty on February 27, 2024.
Hurwit emphasized the severity of Pierce’s actions: “This defendant doubled down on his criminal conduct by threatening the life of an undercover law enforcement officer who helped bring him to justice.” The U.S. Attorney also highlighted the commitment to hold accountable anyone who threatens officers who safeguard public safety.
