A Canton man is facing federal charges for his alleged involvement in a crack cocaine and firearm trafficking operation, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio.
Eric L. McReynolds, 46, was indicted on four counts of possession with the intent to distribute crack cocaine, one count of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and one count of possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. If convicted, McReynolds could face significant prison time and fines.
The charges stem from a September 15, 2016 investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. During the investigation, agents allegedly found crack cocaine, several firearms, and other items indicative of drug trafficking in McReynolds’ possession.
McReynolds’ prior felony convictions for robbery and aggravated robbery bar him from possessing firearms and ammunition, according to the indictment. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Aaron P. Howell.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. McReynolds is entitled to a fair trial, in which the prosecution will have to prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio is committed to holding individuals accountable for their involvement in illegal activities that threaten the safety and well-being of our communities. We will continue to work tirelessly to investigate and prosecute those who engage in such behavior.
McReynolds is scheduled to appear in federal court to face the charges against him. The outcome of the case will depend on the evidence presented and the determination of the court.
