Lawrence Curtis Glover, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Iowa 2025

Lawrence Curtis Glover, a 42-year-old felon from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for tossing a loaded firearm during a high-speed police chase. Glover’s sentencing comes after he pleaded guilty on March 10, 2025, to one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.

The events that led to Glover’s conviction began on January 6, 2024, when law enforcement stopped a car Glover was driving in Cedar Rapids. Realizing officers were about to search his vehicle, Glover fled and embarked on a pursuit that reached speeds of at least 80 miles per hour in a 35-mile-per-hour zone. During the chase, he discarded a loaded firearm out of his car window before pulling over.

Glover’s car was later searched, where officers discovered psilocybin chocolates and marijuana. Glover has a prior 2011 federal conviction for distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of 5 grams or more of cocaine base.

United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams sentenced Glover to 66 months’ imprisonment, with an additional three years of supervised release following his prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.

This case is a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence. The Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN on May 26, 2021.

Glover is currently being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until he can be transported to a federal prison. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Devra T. Hake and investigated by the Cedar Rapids Safe Streets Task Force, which includes representatives from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Cedar Rapids Police Department, and the Marion Police Department.
