Charleston resident Nicholas Kagen Woodin, 35, was caught with a Hi-Point 9mm pistol stashed under his bed during a parole-violation arrest. Woodin’s rap sheet includes a string of convictions for violent crimes, including first-degree robbery, possession of a stolen vehicle, and escape from custody.
Fed law bars felons from possessing firearms, but Woodin knew the rules after his prior convictions. Woodin’s history also includes convictions for receiving or transferring stolen goods, grand larceny, assault, domestic battery, stalking, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.
On November 22, 2024, law enforcement descended on Woodin’s residence to bust him for parole violations. Under his bed, they found the 9mm pistol. The seizure led to a federal indictment and a 5-year, 3-month prison sentence.
U.S. Attorney Moore Capito praised the work of the ATF, West Virginia Parole Services, and the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office for cracking the case.
U.S. District Judge Thomas E. Johnston imposed the sentence, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Amy L. McLaughlin prosecuting the case.
