A Charleston man is facing five years of federal probation after getting caught running a shady gun-dealing operation. Victor Lynn Jarrett, 74, dodged a prison sentence, but will have to toe the line with a federal probation officer for the next five years.
According to investigators, Jarrett bought 79 firearms from licensed retailers between May 2019 and March 2023. He then flipped at least 72 of those guns to make a profit, selling them from his Charleston home or at various locations around the city.
The gun dealer’s side hustle was quite the operation, with Jarrett selling firearms at a gas station on the East End, a flea market near Capital High School, and even from his truck parked on the side of the road in Kanawha City. Several of the firearms Jarrett purchased were later recovered by law enforcement at local crime scenes.
United States Attorney Moore Capito commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in bringing Jarrett to justice. Assistant United States Attorney Lesley C. Shamblin prosecuted the case.
