⏱ 2 min read

Julian Russell Clawson, a 43-year-old man from Brooksville, has been found guilty of receiving, distributing, and possessing child sexual abuse material in Tampa, Florida. The crimes occurred in April 2023, when Clawson traded the illicit material on a social media application, engaging in graphic discussions about the abuse of minors in public groups and with undercover FBI agents. Clawson’s actions were part of a larger pattern of behavior, as he had previously been convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material.

According to evidence presented at trial, Clawson distributed the child sexual abuse material to two undercover FBI agents on multiple dates in April 2023. A search warrant executed in June 2023 revealed that Clawson’s cellphone contained over 250 images and videos of child sexual abuse material. The investigation was led by the FBI, with assistance from the Tampa Police Department and the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.

Clawson faces a minimum penalty of 15 years, up to 40 years, in federal prison for each count of receiving and distributing child sexual abuse material, and a minimum of 10 years, up to 20 years, in prison for possessing the material. His combined violation and sentencing hearing will be held at a future date. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Ilyssa M. Spergel as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.

The guilty verdict is a significant step towards holding Clawson accountable for his heinous crimes. The case highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the need for continued efforts to protect children from sexual exploitation and abuse.
