Jonathan Isaac Gibbs, a 26-year-old Baton Rouge man, has pleaded guilty to receipt of child pornography. The disturbing case began on August 10, 2024, when Gibbs’ manager at a local store reported him to the Baton Rouge Police Department for recording an ‘up the skirt’ video of a minor. Gibbs was subsequently arrested and charged with video voyeurism and indecent behavior with juveniles.
Law enforcement obtained search warrants for Gibbs’ electronic devices, including his cellphone and laptop. A search of these devices uncovered a Russian website associated with child pornography, as well as 20 ‘upskirt’ images of minors on his cellphone. Additionally, three images of child sexual abuse material were found on his laptop.
Gibbs’ guilty plea has significant consequences. He faces a minimum of five years and a maximum of 20 years in prison, as well as a fine of $250,000. Furthermore, he will be subject to a lifetime of supervised release and will be required to register as a sex offender.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Baton Rouge Police Department, and Louisiana State Police. U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall praised the efforts of these agencies in bringing Gibbs to justice. The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeremy S. Johnson.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project aims to identify and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and to rescue victims.
