Nicholas Vollertsen, a 41-year-old Lincoln man, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for receiving child pornography. On July 30, 2026, United States District Judge Susan M. Bazis handed down the sentence in federal court in Lincoln. The case began with cybertips about an online cloud storage company, which led the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) to obtain a search warrant for the online account. The account contained 111 files of child pornography, depicting prepubescent and pubescent children engaged in sexual acts.
Further investigation identified Vollertsen as the suspect, and a search warrant was conducted at his residence. Approximately 32 electronic devices were seized, and at least nine of them contained child pornography files. In total, 189,805 child pornography files were found on Vollertsen’s devices.
Vollertsen’s sentence includes 84 months in prison, followed by a 5-year term of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $21,000 in restitution. This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The Nebraska State Patrol investigated the case, which highlights the importance of reporting suspicious online activity to help identify and prosecute individuals who exploit children.
