Edward Winn, a 47-year-old inmate at Okaloosa Correctional Institution in Florida, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for distributing and receiving child pornography. Despite being incarcerated for previous child porn convictions since 2015, Winn continued to exploit children by using a prison-issued tablet to receive and distribute child porn to other inmates between May 6, 2024, and July 9, 2024. The investigation, led by the FBI, uncovered almost 400 child pornography images on Winn’s tablet.
The case highlights the determination of law enforcement to hold predators accountable, even when they’re behind bars. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin emphasized that keeping children safe from exploitation is a top priority, and the substantial prison sentence demonstrates the commitment to holding offenders accountable.
FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley noted that Winn’s actions demonstrate the need for continued vigilance in protecting children from exploitation. The federal sentence will begin after Winn completes his remaining state sentence, expected to end in 2051, and he will be on supervised release for life.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Florida Department of Corrections-Office of Inspector General. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies in combating child exploitation.
