Adolfo Raul Vasquez-Santana, a 32-year-old Mexican national, has been sentenced to 121 months in prison for distributing child pornography through Facebook Messenger in Southaven, Mississippi. Vasquez-Santana, who was in the US illegally, pled guilty to the charges and was also ordered to pay $14,000 in restitution to the victims. The investigation was launched after the Southaven Police Department received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Vasquez-Santana’s crimes involved downloading and sharing violent videos that depicted the sexual abuse of children. His actions were uncovered by the Southaven Police Department and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), who determined that he was in the US illegally and pursued federal charges.
Senior U.S. District Court Judge Sharion Aycock handed down the sentence, which includes five years of supervised release. Following the completion of his prison term, Vasquez-Santana will be removed from the US due to an immigration detainer placed on him by ICE.
The case highlights the importance of cooperation between law enforcement agencies in combating child exploitation. U.S. Attorney Scott Leary praised the efforts of the Southaven Police Department and HSI, stating that federal and state law enforcement working together is crucial in bringing perpetrators to justice.
