Philip Young, a 31-year-old from Olean, New York, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for distributing child pornography. The sentencing follows an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that began on June 22, 2023, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) received a report of a naked prepubescent girl being uploaded to the internet. The image was traced back to Young, who used the Telegram application on his phone and the internet to seek out, receive, and distribute child pornography.
The investigation led to a search warrant being executed at Young’s residence, where a cellular telephone was seized, among other items. A forensic review of Young’s cell phone recovered a video constituting child pornography. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Franz M. Wright and is the culmination of an investigation by the FBI, under the direction of Acting Special Agent-in-Charge Brendan Dunford.
Young was sentenced to 180 months in prison and lifetime supervised release by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr. The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the need to protect society from individuals who engage in the distribution of child pornography.
