Jean Carlos Martinez, Attempted Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Ohio 2025

⏱ 2 min read

A 42-year-old Youngstown man, Jean Carlos Martinez, was caught in a cocaine distribution scheme after a parcel containing nearly four and a half pounds of cocaine was mailed from Puerto Rico to Campbell, Ohio, on January 23, 2025. Martinez had planned to collect the package and distribute its contents. The parcel was seized by postal inspectors, who then delivered it to the intended address, where Martinez was apprehended. The cocaine weighed approximately 2003.9 grams.

Martinez pleaded guilty in April to Attempted Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine. He was sentenced to 188 months (15.6 years) in prison by U.S. District Judge Bridget Meehan Brennan. Martinez will also serve six years of supervised release after imprisonment.

The case was investigated by the United States Postal Inspection Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration-Detroit Division. Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Joines led the prosecution for the Northern District of Ohio.

The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in Ohio. The use of postal services to transport illicit substances is a common tactic used by drug traffickers, but in this case, it led to Martinez’s downfall.
