Trina Marie Bourg, Wire Fraud, Louisiana 2011

Trina Marie Bourg, a 45-year-old court interpreter from Houma, Louisiana, has been arrested on a federal complaint for wire fraud, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. The charges stem from her alleged solicitation of illegal bribes from immigrants and their family members.

Bourg, who provided interpreter services for Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish courts, is accused of representing to these individuals that she would use the money to bribe United States Immigration Officials in order to remove immigration detainers and/or federal immigration charges from their cases. In 2011 and 2014, Bourg solicited two bribes totaling $4,000 from an individual identified as Victim A and his family members.

According to the criminal complaint filed in federal court, Bourg received a total of $3,500 from Victim A’s family member, who paid her because she represented to the family member that she would use the money to influence federal immigration officials. If convicted, Bourg faces a term of incarceration of up to 20 years.

The case was investigated by special agents from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Homeland Security Investigations and the Louisiana State Police-Criminal Investigation Division. The prosecution of this case is being handled by Fraud Unit Chief, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.

The arrest of Bourg highlights the corruption that can occur within the justice system. As a court interpreter, she was trusted to provide a vital service to immigrants and their families. Instead, she allegedly used her position to solicit illegal bribes.

Law enforcement agencies across the country are working to root out corruption and ensure that justice is served. The arrest of Bourg is a step in the right direction, but there is still much work to be done to restore trust in the justice system.
