Crack Cocaine Kingpin Pleads Guilty
A 36-year-old Slidell man has pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine base, also known as crack cocaine. Michael Page entered his plea in federal court before U.S. District Court Judge Lance M. Africk, announced U.S. Attorney Dana J. Boente.
According to court documents, Page conspired with others from February 2010 until September 2010 to distribute and possess with intent to distribute at least 28 grams of crack cocaine.
The statutory penalties for the violation call for not less than five years and not more than 40 years of incarceration, a maximum fine of $5,000,000, and not less than four years of supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for June 20, 2013.
The investigation was initiated based upon a request for assistance by St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain. Deputies with the Narcotics Unit of the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted Special Agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation with this matter over the course of several months.
This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Edward J. Rivera.
Page’s guilty plea marks a significant blow to the local drug trade, and authorities are hopeful that his conviction will serve as a deterrent to others involved in similar activities.
