Darius Robertson, Smuggling, District of Columbia 2023

Washington – Darius Robertson, 32, of the District of Columbia, was today sentenced to a 46-month prison term for orchestrating a sophisticated smuggling operation into the maximum-security Central Detention Facility (CDF) while awaiting trial for murder. The grim revelation came from U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro.

Robertson pleaded guilty on June 23, 2025, before Judge Timothy J. Kelly to conspiracy charges against the United States. His conviction stems from a series of illegal activities that took place between December 2021 and July 2024. Robertson had previously pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in October 2021 for the beating death of his cousin Andre Robertson, with sentencing set for November 7, 2025.

Joining the announcement were key figures including Tom Faust of the D.C. Department of Corrections, FBI Special Agent in Charge Reid Davis, and Metropolitan Police Chief Pamela A. Smith. The court documents detailed a complex conspiracy involving two other detainees, two correctional officers, and community members delivering contraband.

The contraband included a switchblade knife, cell phones, and dangerous substances like fentanyl. In July 2024, following a series of smuggling incidents, corrections officials seized a substantial cache of contraband, including 269 blue pills testing positive for fentanyl and three cell phones.

Co-defendants LaTara Brown, Kiya Holland, Marcel Vines, and Stefon Freshley have also been sentenced. Vines, who was involved in the kidnappings and murders of two innocent victims, received a life plus 60-year sentence on March 7 for those crimes, followed by an additional 46-month term for his role in the smuggling scheme.

This case was investigated and prosecuted with assistance from the FBI, D.C. Department of Corrections, Metropolitan Police Department, and the DOJ Office of Inspector General, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joshua Gold and Sarah Santiago leading the prosecution.
