DC’s grim streets once again echo the sound of justice as Darrell Hinkle, 36, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the senseless shooting of Dajuan Blakney at a Southeast apartment complex. The grim incident, which occurred on April 21, 2023, has finally seen its defendant stand before the law.
Hinkle’s plea, accepted by Superior Court Judge Jason Park on September 4, 2025, carries a mandatory sentence of between 17 and 21 years in prison, followed by supervised release. Sentencing is scheduled for January 16, 2026, marking the end of this chapter of tragedy.
The night of the crime, Hinkle, armed with an assault-style rifle, approached Blakney as he sat on the steps leading to the complex’s entrance.
